Hello,

I enjoy making little models out of clay and I was just wondering if I could add them to my 10 gallon aquarium, or would that hurt the water? If not, what kinds of clay would be best to use for a freshwater aquarium? I currently have 1 male and 3 female guppies, 2 ghost shrimp and 1 snail. I think the snail was called a golden mystery snail, but he/she is black. Thank you very much for any help.

If they have been fired they should be fine..as long as you didn't add any chemicals to teh clay.

Terracotta pots are fine to use in tanks, I don't see why clay wouldn't be, just as long as it's been fired. So that it doesn't break down in the water.

To tell you the truth there is a lot to clay. First, you can't use the self hardening clay, it turns to mud. Second you will want to watch what type of clay you use if you choose not to glaze it as some contain heavy metals. Do a search for clay here in the DIY section and you will find loads of info on clay.
