hi
i have a new external filter and was wondering if i could put all the media from my old one into the new one and start straight away with no need to cycle again.

Yeah, just place all of the medie from the 103 into the 403 and top it up with new media to fill the filter up ;)

The old media will seed the new media with bacteria etc ;)

Either that, or run both filter in the tank for a couple of weeks to enable the media in the 403 to become covered in bacteria etc.

so there wont be another cycle? even with the new (different type) media. the 403 has some sponge and some stuff that looks like pan scourers but nylon and the middle is empty. So i should put the bioballs and siporax from the 103 into the spare chamber? I think I'll use the 103 for some phospate remover and carbon in my dads marine tank as it has a lot of hair algae.

:)

As long as you don't clean the old media before you put it in the 403, you shouldn't see another Cycle ;)
