I Have a 4 foot tank as I upgraded from a 2ft and have this spare now, there is room in the stand to house this and an external filter, I could section it off with perspex to have different grades of sponges then ceramics/bioballs near the end, this would make the water capacity about 220L between them thus being able to house more/larger fish..I hope

The 4 foot tank would have a hole drilled near the top to act as a weir which would lead to the first compartment then either a powerhead or an empty external filter to pump the water back into the tank...

Any ideas on this?

All comments welcome. :good:

it's basically a sump.

Freshwater sumps are good for messy fish that need filtering but not space. No use for fish that need swimming room. They can be a pain if you use CO2 supplements as the extra movement tends to exchange it back to the air too well, but otherwise are fine.

I think they're generally regarded as too much trouble by most people for freshwater tanks unless they're into really big stuff.

Maybe best to have the 60l as a quarantine/fry tank? or for growing on plants?
