Used External Filter

I am looking to buy a new external filter and being on a budget I was wondering if it was a good idea to buy a second hand one, has anyone got any thoughts on this? a good idea or bad idea? I would be interested to know your opinions and advice.

yes if you can find a second hand one then go for it, but i myself would wan't to see it working and listen to it, we brought a fluval 405 for my sister, perfect still one year on, 30 pound's bargain
