Us Tank Lid

I've recently picked up a free 4ft tank that was being chucked out, Filter/heater and tank are all working fine but for some reason the lid must have been bought in America as it has US rated bulbs and plugs?? Is there anyway to safely wire these lids to work in the UK or am I looking at getting new lids or light fittings???

Rewiring the hood to fit UK standard plugs and bulbs should be easy. The US system will be designed to run on 120VAC at 60 HZ so you will also need a new ballast designed to work with your voltage. Travel kits are made with adapters to use when I travel to the UK for things like my electric razor but I would not try to power a light hood using one. All of the parts you will need such as the wire and plug, the ballast and the lamp end connectors should be readily available at any decent lighting shop. It is not only fish keepers that want custom lamp designs after all.
