I need help quick. It all started with on of my female guppies dying. I thought she might have died because she had just giving birth to her babies. But then the next day another of my female guppies died. So I checked my water because it was too suspicious. My water was all good except for the ammonia was extremely high. It was to late for me to go purchase some ammonia reducer so I had to wait till the next day. Well the next day i found one of my mollies had an eye swollen and had some white stuff on him, I am pretty sure it isn't ICK I am very fimmiliar with ICK. So I took him out and put him in a 1 gallon tank for quarantin , I put in fungus medicine according to the label. Its from jungle brand Its Called Fungus Eliminator. So I took off to go buy the ammonia reducer and when I cam home to my surprise another of my fish was dead. It was my most beautiful male betta who was two years old, I noticed he had white in his mouth and on a eye, which he didn't have earlier in the mornig before I left. I checked the rest of the fish also and another of my male mollies also had some white stuff on one eye and fins so I also took him out and put him in the 1 gallon tank with the other. So I fix the problem with ammonia. The next day I find that another of my mollies is infected on an eye and fins. So I took her out and put her in quarintin also. So I have decided to put my whole tank under medication. I already did, but my question is will it affect my fry since they are in a breeder. And my other preg. guppy who is ready to pop any day now? Please answer me and tell me what you recommend me doing and if I did anything wrong that I shoujld know about. Plz thank you.

Hi! So what's the water parameters now? And how long have you set up your tank? And what's your water changing routine?

I assumed your tank's cycled cause you said the betta's 2 years old... If the tank's all cycled, you may want to find out why there's a sudden ammonia spike.

And is the 1gallon tank cycled? No matter what medication you put in, unless the tank water is good, they can't fully recover. So 1st thing is to make sure the water quality is good (0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, >40 (or ideally lowest possible) nitrate).

To answer your question, frys are fragile and can't tolerate fluctuating water conditions, eg. ammonia spike, or medications. So it's best to set up a breeder tank and put them in. But make sure the tank's cycled tho.

And try doing more water changes with your big tank. Good luck! :flowers:

There has to be a reason for the ammonia spike. Have you added any of these fish lately? what size tank are we talking about? Have you changed the filter material or washed it out or cleaned the gravel lately?

Its a ten gallon tank. Now the ammonia is 0, Nitrite 0 and nitrate 40. Yes a clean filters out all the time and I even have two filters instead of one. I have had set up for a month since I switched from a 5 gallon tank. Yes the 1 gallon tank water is good conditions. It's been alredy 18 hrs and fry are doing fine in the medicated water but i think im going to set up the 1 gallon tank and put them in. The thing is that the other three fish I already took out into quarintin are very infected so I dont want to mix them in with the other fish again. My other fish still in the tank are doing fine and have no signs of the fungus or anything else, should I till continue the medication to be safe. YOu all think it was the ammonia that caused the fungus, I have been noticing that my mollies might be the ones causing it to go up, simce all they do is poop all day. The reason i say this is because when I checked the water when I noticed that the ammonia was really high the water would get into chunks in the test tube and some was very clear and the other chunks where dark yellow almot orange, is there a reason for this. Yes i did shake it. Plz answer and thank you.
