I have been cleaning the tank, when I found a small shrimp.

It has one clipper larger than the other, and made a loud snapping noise, when I captured it. Its either a small mantis or small pistol shrimp.

it has bands on its back, and is traditional shrimp shape, like my cleaners, with one large pincer?

Any ideas, before I decide to keep or not?

Thanks guys,

can you get a pic it could be a young boxer or pistol shrimp of some sort

Agreed, likely pistol or a boxer shrimp with one claw larger than the other.

Pistol of some sort deffinately. Mantis and boxing shrimps have claws which are of equal size. Pistols always have one claw bigger than the other.

Cheers guys, yeah its defo a pistol shrimp of some kind, with dark bands on it back. Scared the missus half to death when I had it in the net and it made a really loud snap, as she leant in to have a look :hyper: ! Considering the size of the thing it was quite impressive.

I was actually trying to get the rogue hitchhiker crab out, using Ski's method of Epsom salts. Link

It jumped out of a rock, whilst I was looking for the crab. I wanted to be double sure before putting it back in the tank.

But its a nice present to get a pistol shrimp from somewhere...
