I'm a new aquarium owner and I lost 2 of my scissortails and found them in my over flow. I need to know what to do. I'm affraid to pull away the sponge filter at the bottom of the overflow, because I think my fish will be sucked into the filtering
system. What should I do, is it safe for them to be in there, how fast do I need to get them out and how do I prevent this
from happening again. Thanks in advance Martyfish

Net him and put him back in the tank?

Thats it! :p If the fish are above the sponge, dont remove it. If it were me, get in there, net them, and see if it hapens again. It might be a one off event, but if it isnt, you can also cover the tank better so they cant jump over the baffles, or, if they are going through a comb overflow perhaps use something like a mesh or gutter guard made of plastic to prevent them squezing through.
