URGENT HELP NEEDED FOR SICK BETTA

My Betta has a white fungal disease.

I added a chemical to cure this to the water. The next day when he looked unwell I realised I had added the amount of chemical for a 40 litre tank, while it is approx 30 litre tank.

I put him into clean (treated to remove chlorine etc)water. A couple of days later he is still hardly doing anything, just resting on bottom or top in plants, often sort of leaning to one side, not eating. He can still swim quite quickly, but generally doesn't.

Is this from the chemical overdose or the fungus or both?

Is there anything else I can do to help counteract the chemical? Should I leave him in this clean water with none of the chemical added? The fungus is getting worse. Or should I put him back in a normal or dilute amount of the chemical?

He is my son's fish and he is quite upset and crying worrying that his fish will die, so any urgent help to try to save him would be most appreciated!

Anthea.

I know this isn't much, but all I could think of that may help is immediately add dechlorinator (which you've done), heavily aerate and begin multiple water changes. I hope your son's fish pulls through. Please update us on how he's doing.

Sorry to hear about your betta. Often bettas will pull through these situations so don't give up hope.

I would recommend putting your son's betta in a quarantine 1 gallon tank which will help get it the meds it needs more quickly and plus makes it easier for you to do frequent water changes. The lack of a filter stream also helps them to recover since they don't need to struggle against it.

Here's what has worked for me in the past:
1 gallon tank
dechlorinated water
1/2 tsp of aquarium salt
meds ( I use Jungle fungus eliminator and use 1/5 tsp in 1 gallon of water)

I change the water every 3 days adding the above at every water change. I repeat treatment for upto 3 times by which time they are usually cured.

Hope this helps.

This is a harder one. What was the chemical? Was it a chemical. or a medication? Did the treatment affect the fungus at all? You need to treat the fungus, or it will get worse. Depending on what you treated it with, putting a 1/3 dosage extra would probably not be fatal, but would stress the fish more, which isn't good in it's condition. Putting it in clean water helped it's stress, but you need to retreat it for the fungus. Maroxy is one of the best meds for fungus, but there are others.
