My Betta has a white fungal disease.

I added a chemical to cure this to the water. The next day when he looked unwell I realised I had added the amount of chemical for a 40 litre tank, while it is approx 30 litre tank.

I put him into clean (treated to remove chlorine etc)water. A couple of days later he is still hardly doing anything, just resting on bottom or top in plants, often sort of leaning to one side, not eating. He can still swim quite quickly, but generally doesn't.

Is this from the chemical overdose or the fungus or both?

Is there anything else I can do to help counteract the chemical? Should I leave him in this clean water with none of the chemical added? The fungus is getting worse. Or should I put him back in a normal or dilute amount of the chemical?

He is my son's fish and he is quite upset and crying worrying that his fish will die, so any urgent help to try to save him would be most appreciated!

Anthea.

To be honest the fish sounds as though he is dieing, sorry, where is the fungus and what does it look like.

I would probably do water changes, what chemical was added to the water and how long was he in it? The fungus could be from the stress, though I am not sure--Is he still eating?

Allo :)

I have just cured this on my own fish, so have hope.
Betta's are for the most part pretty tough little buggers.
In my opinion you should take him out of the community tank ( if he is in one ) and put him in something at least 2g large. Give him an airstone too.
The best way I have found to cure this is to add 1 teaspoon of salt per 10g. Plus the amount of meds your using. I highly recommend betafix, or melafix. He will need to be on his own for about a week, perhaps more depending on how he is looking. I generally go for a higher protean food, perhaps frozen bloodworms or brine shrimp. Keep tempting him to eat, and keep all unwanted food out of his hospital tank.

Do let us know how he does :)
