Down a dark hole... Down a dark hole... with an ow
Hi ppl,

If you follow my other thread, you can catch up with what has previously happened.

Link to thread

Last night, my gouramis (back in main tank) were flicking like crazy, with no visible signs of anything.....
This morning, the yellow male the worst, were covered, head to foot in sores, still flicking like mad, and fungus/cotton wooly stuff on them.... we are talking fins the lot....

He is in a really bad way..... :-(

I am treating the whole main tank with a parasiticide, called Sterazin, by Waterlife.
I have been assured these are ok with scaless fish and they do not effect b.bacteria.

Because of the Gourami sores i really want to put some melafix in there, just to sooth and help heal. However the Sterazin clearly say that not to use with other meds.... is Melafix a med?? :S

If my Yellow Male Gourami gets through this i will be very suprised..... he is ill man, as are the other two, but not quite to the same extent :-( :-( :-( :-(

Any ideas ppl.... and moral support wouldnt go a miss either......

:/ :-(

Melafix isn't a med as much as it is an aid or a remedy. I personally don't think there would be a problem if you added some. I know you're fond of Ken's advice so I'll PM him and bring this thread to his attention. Best of luck!

Thanks for that.....

U make me sound biased (i welcome any u c advice), its just that ken seems to know his meds.... wheras im in limbo u see.......

Iv come down this morning, after the 1st shot of Sterazin, and the Male Gourami is alot worse......
Fungus, reds sores (it almost looks like hes bee dropped in a pan of hot oil, and put back in the tank again)
The others look ok, not great, but nothing like this,,,,,

Im gonna have to isolate him and treat with Methylene Blue, Salt and Melafix again.
Even if the Sterazin is fighting the parasite or whatever caused this, im gonna have to heal his wounds first,

I feel sick...... He looks so bad.....

:-(

one thing melafix will not remove the parasites. also melafix is a natural antibiotic medication and should not be used in conjunction with sterazin. i would use the sterazin to remove the parasites. also, depending what you have in the tank withit, aquarium salt. keep the lighting off to releive stress. after you are sure that the parasites are gone, put some carbon in the filter for 24 hours to remove the sterazin. at that time i would use melafix and pimafix together to treat for the damage done by the parasites.

melafix and pimafix are two different natural antiobiotic meds. both are usually used seperately to treat fin rot and sores. they can be used together safely. when they are used together they are a much more effective medication.

Thanks for the advice. Sterazin is still doing its stuff in the main tank, thankfully without the help of melafix.... phew - No salt (Plec and a Pictus)
The inhabitants are doing good, no signs of stress, flicking or much else. Il finish the course of Sterazin to eradicate whatever it is/was/has.....

However, my male Gourami that was quartantined has just died.....
Choked :byebye:
He was being treated (too late i may add, he got worse overnight big time)

He was a beautiful fish man... tribute the little one...... i am truly sad...

:rip:

I'm sorry too, fawke :-( It seems quite common lately to hear of symptoms such as these in gouramis -_- It makes me wonder if there's some sort of odd med-resistant strain going around.
