Hi,

Thought about posting this in the Emergency section, but as it`s not an emergency as such and it is a Catfish I thought it best to post here to see if anyone has experienced the same problem.

Anyhow:-

I have an U/D cat that is approx 3" and occaionally it has a somewhat bloated stomache. This is not permanent and when it happens it only seems to last a couple of days. I dont think I am over feeding it, if anything it might be underfed as in the past the whole tank was overfed and experienced water quality problems. This has now been rectified as the water is much better due to feeding every other day.

My question is...........Is this normal for it to look slightly bloated at times due to digestive behaviour or could it be something more sinister (Dropsy)

When the bloating is present it does not affect the normal attributes of the fish, nor does it have any discolouration, just looks fat or pregnant (Deffinately rule the latter out)

Thanks,

Gary.

normal
most catfish stuff as much as they can in their gobs, often to the point of bursting.
you should see my eelcat after he has eaten

Cheers,

Has put my mind at rest a little, at least I know it is getting some food.

Slightly off topic,

I`ve heard they like insects as part of their diet. What would be best to feed it that is readilly available (Thinking along the lines of Earth Worms, flies etc)
