I have 46 G 2 feet tall goldfish tank.

These have just come onto the market in the last year or so (most likely less), I haven't heard anything bad about them in the slightest, although at the same time, nothing good either. I'm rather intrigued to see how they work though, and whether they're better than internals or not. My main worry though is the lack of space for the lights, considering your tank is planted.

I dont have issues regarding it taking space at top, I dont have those long PL tubes for light, i have made a DIY light-stand from a plastic pipe with 2 CFLS its very mcguyver setup which takes v small space and looks good (atleast to me) , my giant vals are thriving, along with soft tiger lilies (but my goldies brush the leaves too much which tears them before they grow up).

I already have 1 feet tall Dolphin Submerisble filter it has giant bio-chem sponge and its doing okay job, but the thing is, Dolphin filter has to be removed totally every week for cleaning and i am tired of cleaning, I am thinking , if this new filter on top actually works more than adequate, I can actually remove my dolphin submerse and give more space to my giant giant goldfish pair which make this 46G feel small, I have temporarily kept their babies (20+ juvies) and looking for proper filter.

I think i will buy Boyu UF. unless someone tells me horror stories bout this.

BTW i have read this type of filters are not good at all for v small fish like mollies or guppies or Siamese fighter fish etc, this filters can tear up fins etc and easily trap small fish. I hope they wont hurt my goldies, I will return them instantly if I find them doing that.

EDIT: >> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m8s9_H3Zh1Y This is how my tank looks right now, I really should edit my Avatar with new pic.
