I have dabbled with this before but decided against it but I have now after a chat with SWMBO have decided to upgrade curent Rio 180 marine setup to my Rio 400. I run a deltec MCE 600 on the 180 so no problem there or with powerheads I have a nice selection of them too lol.

The Rio400 will be shutdown once it's inhabitants have been moved on to their new homes and the tank cleaned out then things start to get serious. Currently I have around 30+ kilos in the 180 that I will transfer to the 400, seeing as that is more than enough to filter the current stocking in the 180 I planned to move the LR over Inc the few mushies I have and zoas and add sand to taste Lol After the sand has settled I was going to add the fish. Temps/SG will be identical so is just a case of moving straight in.

I will add some cured LR to the tank to accomodate further stocking in due corse. Just wondered if placing it on top the sand will be an issue? As obviouslyrhe sand will ready be there before the new rock.

Anyone see Any issues?

Hi

when you move your sand you will have 2 leave it a few days as you will be coauseing an ammonia surge lifting it all up you can add the rock at the same time but keep the rock with all the corals on it as an ammonia surge can go a little extream off the scale so keep an eye on it . if there in no ammonia the next day re rest then the following day it can be added th rest of the stock but add as much of thne aqarium water availble

regards scott

Sorry i didnt mention the sand will be new sand i will only use a small amount my current sand to seed the new stuff.

trying to pick an RO unit, lookin at an osmotics one as RO man seems to be having difficulties and could be folding.

Seffie what GPD unit do you use i know you have a R400. i was thinking 3/4stage 75GPB with DI, my mains pressure is very high so shouldnt be any issues there

That will be fine - I don't change the water very often, just do top-ups :good: the main problem is the initial fill-up, that's a lot of containers  but if you are anything like me you wont be able to wait for the RO unit to produce 320 litres of water or so.

I ended up testing my lfs water, which was fine and then buying it - luckily between Trod and I we had enough containers. Some lfs will loan them out. But before you decide to buy the first load from lfs, test their water, you wouldn't want to fill your tank up with dodgy water

i use LFS water for my Rio180- marine setup i had one batch where it had a trace of nitrate but informed them and they changed their membranes.

I only got 3 25Litre containers lol and a small car! so could well be a long wait!

could a mod please move this to journals

this is exactly what i did move my reef rio 180 to my rio 400

just thought id say

not far your southend kinda way arent you? takes me 45mins to get to rayleigh swallow aquatics when i fancy a fry up lol and change of scenery

what ever you do, don't get your water from swallows though, unless they have recently changed their membranes.

Trod lives two minutes away from Swallows and I live about ten minutes away

YF found that his local dentist bought their 'special' water in the water containers we used and would sell them off real cheap, might be worth a phonecall

get mine from swallows in colchester, thier RO is pretty good most the time.

Just got off the phone to a tried and trusted LFS (small establishment been around for yrs) and they have agreed to take in Scar, my 9inch red O that i am finding hard to home privately. He goes in on satuday (god help them  he's fiesty) and the Clown loaches and Silver Dollars are being collected Sunday evening by someone local. Then Operation Marine 2 can start with tank strip down.

yup even though he/she has caused afew problems in the year i have had it i will miss it, ya never know maybe one day i'll get another. Anyway this is a marine thread so back to that.

Gonna try picking up some T5 marine tubes for the tank on sat and order an RO unit ASAP and find something big to store water in
