Hello everyone. Thanks to some X-mas cash, I have finally been able to upgrade my aquarium from a 28 gallon, to a 55 gallon. I have purchased some new fish too. Can you believe that when I went to the pet shop today, they had a bunch of black sharks in a 10 gallon, and what's worse is they didn't even have a label for them, I had to ask the person there what kind of shark it was. So, unknowlingly, a customer that has a 10 gallon tank with neons and zebras will think black sharks are fine, peaceful fish because they are small, and aren't with the more agressive fish.

Anyway, I bought a Jack Dempsey and a hybrid between a dempsey and a convict. (At least that's what the person there told me). So, in total I have 1 Rainbow Shark, 1 Tinfoil Barb, 2 Cory Cats, 1 SAE, 1 Jack Dempsey, and 1 half Dempsey, half convict. I was told that these chichlids are highly aggressive and will make quick work of any other fish in the tank. Well, within 5 minutes of putting them in my tank, my full gown red-tail was quick to show them who's the king of the tank. Of course, the convict is really small, and the dempsy is medium, smallish, but now they mostly just hang out in the upper corners of the tank. I really don't know what to do, I have lost 7 tiger barbs, an upside down catfish, 2 bala sharks, and 2 irredescents to this shark. He constantly harrasses my tinfoil barb. I thought it was because of the smaller tank size. But since he's in a 55 gallon, the situation remains the same.

Well first congrats on your new tank!

The first problem that I noticed is that you only have 1 tinfoil barb. Tinfoil barbs prefer to live in schools so you will have to up your numbers on them. You will also have to up the number on teh cory cats. Also the bala sharks and irredescents would have needed a larger tank. Hopwe I was of some help! Good Luck!

Thanks. Even though I only have 1 tinfoil barb, he seems to be doing just fine. Do you think if I get more of them, he won't be harrassed as much by my shark? I hear ya about the balas and the irredescents. At the time of their demise, I only had a mere 10 gallon. I was wondering, why do you think I should get more corys? I had the 2 for 4 or 5 years now, and for the most part, they're doing fine, except that my 1 cory dosen't have any fins. At first I thought my tiger barbs were eating them, but their long gone, and still no fins.
