Hi Guys,

Ok so this weekend I went and purchased a new tank off ebay (Birthday present from me to well me which will be on Sept 7th). I only want to keep one tank however new tank needs to go in the same location as current one. My question(s) is/are will follow after what I am proposing.

I am going to drain the tank down to about a 1/4 of the volume (Only 2 fish and one cleaner shrimp in the tank) and keep the water in containers. Then I am going to remove all the live rock and place in buckets (with water from current tank), then once slightly lighter MOVE the whole tank and unit it sits on across the other side of the room (Depending on weight I may remove entire livestock and drain completely down). Then add new tank in its place.

My questions are:

Should I then add everything back into old tank and start a whole new cycle on the new tank which new rock etc then once completed in x amount of weeks add livestock back!

OR

Can I add all old sand/live rock/water into NEW tank with old water (from containers above) and top up with fresh RO water to fill the tank, with correct SG etc.

I am upgrading from a 96L/22G UK/25G US to 180L/39G UK/47G US so ALOT of new water.

Has anyone any thoughts/suggestions on what I should do please?

Many thanks,

What is the depth of the sandbed, and how long has it been set up? The sand bed is the only thing that may pose a problem, so get back to us with that info and that will help determine how you go about things.
