I've just bought a new tank and want to transfer the internal filter, 2 ornaments, plants and fish from my 60 litre to new 125. What I need to know is... will i be able to simply use new treated water and simply transfer the fish/filter etc into complete new set up?

I know I'll have to get temperature right and that the fish will have to be floated as I would with new fish, but not sure if I'll have to use the current water? As far as I'm aware, because I'm keeping the same filter, it should be ok.

Can anyone clarify this for me? And has anybody got any other tips?

Hi I'm fairly new to this but when we upgraded our last tank (old one was damaged) we were told to do as follows:

Wash gravel for the new tank add 30lts of treated water to the new tank and heat then gradualy add water from the old tank bag the fish when there is too little for them in the old and then transfer remainder of the water and media quickly then float fish to acclimatise and add water mix to bag after 15 levae for 15 before adding to the tank. Get a old sock and put old gravel in this and add to new tank.

We were told this was the equivelent of doing a 1/3 water change as there is only 90ltrs in the new tank you can top up every few days with new water till 120 and the tank should stay cycled as long as you don't add any new fish or plants. once all is settled you can add plants and fish.

I'm not sure this is the right way but we only lost one neon and we think his swim bladder was damaged when he was netted as he died the day after we bought him.

You need to ensure your existing filter is big enough to cope and the same for your heater.
