i was taking new pictures of the fish, and while i wasn't attempting this picture, it just happened because these guys wouldn't stop following me around.

those are all my rainbows. only one of the boesemanis is missing, and you can see his tail on the left side of the image...he was there too!

i know the picture is small and all, but can you verify the IDs to be as in my signature?

more importantly, take a look at the body shape of that M. lacustris between the two G. incisus...am I right in saying it's a female rather than a juvenile adult (look at the male behind her...he's the same size but much smaller head and deeper stomach + more coloration).

once i get home i'll post pictures of her/him alone to help with the ID, but any rough idea you have, let me know :good:

EDIT:

here is another bad picture of the M. lacustris i believe to be a female...can you guys confirm?

and the other guys too:
G. incisus + one of my two M. boesemani in the back

i'll update when i get new pictures of the other rainbows

Looks to be properly identified. The only question woud be the axelrodi and without a better pic of him, we would be guessing. Nice collection though. I'm the type of person where I only wan 1 or maybe 2 species in the same tank at the same time (of course this is personal choice.)

i almost went with only boesemani and lacustris but my fiancee (and i as well) like variety. i would love to have a big enough tank where i can have multiples of each species like i do now but in higher amounts :hyper:

That M. Lacustris does look to be a female, and a beauty at that. How old is that fish?

not sure. i bought her 1 month to the day today (9/10/08) but when i got her i tried to get the biggest one they had at the store. she's a little bit longer than my male, who i suppose to be around 9 months old. so maybe she's around 1 year old? i really dont know. 1 month with me is all i know

These are really pretty. I'm looking to get some as well. I was just wondering how many I can keep in a 55 gallon with my other fish.
But I really like yours :) Specially the first one in your edit.

That depends on the species. I would say no more than 10 in a 55 gallon.

She is very colorful for a female. Especially colorful for a LFS fish to boot.

a little update as i know you really are into lacustris.
the female in question has gotten even more colorful. the bottom fin looks like a iridescent/powder blue when she spreads it open. the top is green-ish blue and the towards the anal fin she gets to be dark blue. when looking at her i can't shake the sensation that she is somewhat purple-ish looking  great great color and great form too. i dont know if it's a result of being more settled in the tank, or the slight lowering of pH as i started last week to dose CO2 (diy yeast method, 2 bottles).
i've seen some of the males flash at her trying to get it on, but she hasn't been injured physically at all...as a matter of fact, all of my rainbows seem to be getting along just great. no real bickering and no injuries :good:

i wish i had a dSLR so i could take a picture of her showing her true colors. my crappy digicam wont get them so i wont even try
