It's been about a week since my betta chewed off his tail and I think he's doing pretty well. It's not really growing back yet and may never grow back because he'll probably keep it trimmed down. But he has not developed any fin rot or any other infection from it. I'll continue with the frequent water changes, salt and melafix for a few more days, then just water changes and salt. Anyway here are some pics:

this is when I first noticed it a week ago:

and this is tonight-it might be a little shorter because he chewed it more after the first day, but not so stringy and no fuzz or black or red spots:

What do you think?

and Yeeviabetta quit telling me to trim it. I can't bring myself to do that and I've been ignoring you whenever you suggest it. btw you can fly up to Indiana (or down? I'm terrible with geography) and do it for me. ;)

eta: his anal fin hasn't been chewed-the bottom of it is not so visible because of the way it's flowing I guess. It's all there though.

OK. next time I post some pictures to show you guys how to trim a betta tail. LOL My old betta need to trim again. He looks old and he hate to drag his tail plus he is getting lazy. LOL I just realized him today. Breed is good, exciting and active. Talkingcare of the bubbles lazy to blow now.

Looks like his tail is coming along fine. Don't worry if it is a bit shorter than it used to be. Had to trim one of my veil tails when he had a bad case of finrot (bleeding fins). New fin is shorted than his onld one, but he is now a faster more active fish :D

I trimmed one of my DT males with huge finnage, but I felt terrible though. He seems okay, but he didn't have a clue what I was trying to do to him. I won't do it again unless I have to.

Just out of curiousity, how do you trim a bettas' finnage? Does it hurt them, or is it painless just like people getting a hair cut? :dunno:

feels just like when you are having a tatoo i guess.:) lol. ral. aren't the betta is more active after trim?:) Mine are too.:) I have to trim mine because they are badly bite by the bitchy female and he feel so depress. Now both are back to beautiful and very active now.:) i think trimming is men thing. lol
:D

Just thought i'd throw my pic up here.
It's such a shame, too, because he looks so gorgeous with his flowing tail in his new tank.

:/
