I posted awhile back about two goldfish I'd aquired - I moved them from their 2g tank and into an approx. 30g plastic tote container. They were definitely happy for their new space. Unfortunately, just a few weeks ago I lost the male to swim bladder disease. I tried dropper feeding him peas, but I couldn't save him.

I've read that swim bladder disease is pretty common in fancy goldfish and would like to prevent my other one from getting it, so I've been soaking her flake food and giving her peas several times a week, plus an occasional bloodworm. I'd like to give her more fresh food though. Are there any certain veggies/greens besides peas that are particularly good for them? Which ones should I stay away from?

Thanks in advance. :)

Sounds like you're doing just fine for her. They like cucumber and zucchini and things like that, I blanch mine in some boiling water first to make it softer for them. But they seem to enjoy it.

You could also try things like sinking algae wafers/tablets designed for catfish... mine love the tablets that you can stick to the glass. Also keeping the water nice and fresh by doing regular 25-30% water changes and having a good filter will help prevent the fish becoming weakened and susceptible to swimbladder infection. Tonic salts like 'Aqualibrium' dissolved in the water at a low dosage supposedly help to boost immunity and promote general health.
Interpet Aquarium Treatment No. 13 'Swimbladder Treatment' also works really well if one of your remaining goldfish do end up having problems. I've used it in the past on more than one occasion and it clears the problem up quite nicely.

When I used to have goldfish, I would give them orange slices on water change day! They loved them, but I was afraid of the acid in the water, so if they got their treat on water change day, it wasn't really a problem. :)

Another "fresh snack" would be snails... haha When I first got into fish, my neighbor had an outbreak of snails in one of her tanks, so I decided to take two and see how face they would multiply in my goldie tank. I dropped them in... they didn't even get a chance to hit the bottom before they were gobbled up! Needless to say... no snail population in a goldie tank,
