Update On Gold Severum

Well...instead of being able to get 2 ten gallon tanks, I got one 5 gallon tank that is already cycled. I put the Gold Severum in it, and a Clown Loach because they are both looking sick. I will work on sending pics of both.

I was only able to get a pic of the Gold Severum, so anyway here he is...

On the picture you can see the red and also the red sore underneath the fin.

The red streaks look like streaks look like septcemia. And the open sore is most likely an ulcer. Both are bacterial infections. What is going on with the clown loach? Definately turn the heater down in the hospital tank to slow the bacteria's growth, turn it down two degrees every day. Also, you are going to need to treat with a broad spectrum antibiotic (tetracycline is good, but can kill the bacteria. Or use Maracyn AND maracyn 2)

The Clown Loach has irritation in the gills, and he's gasping for air it seems like. I think it's going to be ich because last time some of my fish did this I had an ich outbreak.

Ok, add CopperSafe to the tank. Its an anti-parasite med that is really gentle. Gentle enough to treat clown loaches at the full dose. I am currently using it for a gill fluke outbreak and my clowns are fine with the full dose, and it seems to have worked really well.

Ok, I got some CopperSafe from my LFS, and also an airstone for the tank. I'm wondering though, are ulcers contagious? These 2 fish have different things wrong with them, so I don't know whether it is best to have them together or not although I don't have another choice. Also, for the Gold Severum it's alright to keep in the 5 gallon for a couple weeks right?

Ulcers are contagious. Look at your other fish. Do they seem to be breathing rapidly? Gill flukes (a common gill parasite) are highly contagious

Oh ok then...looks like hes staying in there. And only the Clown Loach seemed to be breathing heavily, no other fish I have is.

Is the clown loach scratching on anything? Its also possible it is a bacterial gill problem (the meds you are using will probably work for that as well)

No he's not scratching on anything. Its weird, he seemed a lot worse yesterday, maybe he's getting better!

Well, it may not be parasites, but you do have both bases covered. Glad to hear he is getting better. Clown loaches are my favorite.

How is the ulcer guy doing?

Acting normal, but he has the ulcer, so hes not going anywhere...I hope he stays like this until it heals! But anyway, I'll update you all in about a week or so on how he is doing.

Be sure to keep the clown loach isolated for atleast a week, to make sure the problem is cured. Ideally, having two hospital tanks is best. See if your neighbors or anyone else has one you can use.

Are both the fish in the same tank, please do not mix meds, the clown loach could of been irratated by the bacterial med did you increase aeration in the tank.

Unfortunately, yes they are both in the same tank. I have a huge amount of aeration in the tank also. I'm trying to use a medication that cures ich, and bacteria. I'm also toning the medication down a bit so as to not hurt the clown loach, and I'm also making the temperature cooler and cooler everyday as someone said above.
