So after some headaches the first week my marine tank is up and running - live sand, live rock, cleaning crew, cleaner shrimp and two false perculas. I'm not sure where I'm headed next in terms of stocking.

But there's a couple other small issues I'm wondering about. After all the work (and money), I've put in I want everything to be *perfect* and there's a couple things that are bothering me.

1) No matter where I put my power heads, I end up with a point in the sand bed that gets blown away, creating a bare spot down to the glass in the sand bed. Not a big deal, I know. I can just move the sand over once a day, but I'd prefer not to. Any one else have this problem? Any suggestions?

2) What do you guys clean the front of your tank with -- both inside and out? The front of my tank on the outside keeps getting streaks if I use window cleaner solution. I wipe the streaks off with plain paper towel and just get a different type of streak. When I get frustrated, I take part of my cotton t-shirt in my hand and wipe at the streaks and get the best results - haha. Meanwhile, he front of the tank on the inside keeps getting some white "dusty" stuff - I'm guesing it's just some silt and loose sand and salt. I use a sponge to clean it off every couple days but it always comes back (especially since I keep having to stick my hand in to move the displaced sand back over, which causes some of it to rise into the water).

3) And finally, are there any good water clarifiers for a marine tank that you could recommend? With all the commotion in the tank from wiping the walls and moving the sand, it seems like my water always is a tiny bit cloudy.

Thanks as usual for your responses guys. I'll have to try to put up some pictures.

Any suggestions? i am not getting this problem, point it close to the top of the tank, and hopefully it will not happen.

I'm not sure what the white stuff is but if your tanks new it may be a type of algae? A photo would help for ID purposes.

I clean my outside glass with a clean dry j cloth. The inside with a rough sponge (not too rough though or it'll scratch the glass!!)

Try moving the powerheads directed at the rock - midway and you shouldn't have a problem. Lift it up a bit if you do. Make sure a powerhead is breaking the waters surface aswell.

I had the same prob in my nano regarding the sand blown into a pile. I ended up pointing my large powerhead up towards the water surface to give good agitation and my smaller one blowing against the glass. No more sand being disturbed and no more dead spots.

I use paper towels also and a soft sponge for inside. I also have a magnetic algae scraper which does a great job cleaning both the inside and outside of the glass. It leaves no streaks too.

Bits of sand blowing around the tank will keep floating while it's being disturbed and can make the tank seem cloudy ish.
Adjusting the powerheads should eliminate your problems.

Once you've sorted the sand issue run some activated carbon as it leaves my water looking crystal clear.
