Hi..(i'm a noob! :S )

Tank 32"x14"x16"
4 neon tetra
1 zebra tetra
1 light head+tail tetra
2 harlequine tetra
3 silver/bala sharks (too many I Know!)
1 panda catfish

I have a load of questions but for now my biggest concern is the panda, has it gone crazy?
as far as i know cat fish are bottem feeders and only come up rarely
my panda was fine for the first 3 weeks..feeding and cleaning the bottom of the tank
1 week after i put the cat fish in i put the 3 bala shark so for 2 weeks they've been fine
now in the last few days the panda is speeding all around the place..it spends a few minutes
searching around the bottom then goes off at high speed to every corner of the tank for a few minuts
so my question would be..is this normal or is he getting harrased?

P.S. the tank's been running for 3 months

Hello :hi: to the forum,

If its a panda cory, it is probably looking for some other corys as they should be kept in groups, they do swim at all levels of the tank so that in itself isn't unusual, try to get at least 2 more pandas if you can, also the tetras should be in groups of 5+ of the same type. The balas live in groups but really need a 6ft tank as they grow 12 inches+

Emma :)

it's amazing the things the aquairum shop DONT tell you :sly:
when i baught the panda the salesman did'nt bother saying they prefer to be in groups
i may get one or two more!

i know i'll need a bigger tank soon for the sharks!

And the neons are getting quite fraustraiting!..baught 6 neons + 6 mollies 2 weeks after cycleing the tank, all 6 mollies and 2 neons died  so i checked the levels and both my tests and the shops tests were fine! a week later i got 6 more neons ... they died!
and this made me think of giving up  i called my tank the dying pool :/

Thanks for relieving my concerns :good:

Dont worry about neons dying, they are weak and quite a few have a disease called Neon Tetra disease. If you like the look of them, go for cardinal tetras, look almost the same and are alot healthier. :good:

sound like you had good intentions but put too much in to start with, your filter couldn't handle the big spike in levels. start slow build your tank up slowly let it rest 2-3 weeks before add more. as Emma has said tetra's harlequine's and your panda catfish (or cory) like to be in groups. but having said that you have got a lot of tetra's that should kinda sholl togeather but your cat is looking for friends?

Strange that the Cory is doing this even though it has no friends, perhaps it's looking for them?

Corys do act funny like this but usually in big groups.
