im a noob whos steadily stocking up a 22 gal community tank with a few plants.
current fish are
4 neon tetras (originally got 6 but 2 got into old filter and pressumably drowned :-( )
3 female platties
2 male mollies
2 male guppies
at some point (soon) i want some corys what is a good number to get as i understand they appreciate company? i was thinking 4-6?

would the neons be better with another 2 or 3?? how about 2 or 3 cardinals would these shoal with tetras or do they tend to stay seperate?

anyway i need to know if any of these are a deffinate nono when it comes to adding a male betta i know the tetras might get a bit nippy il watch for it but theyv shown no signs of it with the other fish
i also know the betta may try and kick the guppies arses (thats down to the tempremant of the betta though afaik)
is their any deffinatte issue with platties and mollies?
iv read the betta should be fine with corys

Getting another couple of neons wouldn't be a bad idea, they are better in groups of 6 or more.
As for the Betta, he'd probably be happier in a tank on his own. You have got the risk of the neons nipping him and there's also a good chance he will attack the guppies. It is entirely up to you if you want to chance it but make sure you have a seperate tank for the Betta in case things don't work out.

He may also get annoyed at the platys and mollys since they are fairly brightly coloured and similar size to the Betta. A lot of those fish are quite boistrous when it comes to feeding too. I think you may struggle to get adequate food to your Betta in that tank.

As always with Bettas it very much comes down the individual fish, my Betta is timid when it comes to feeding, he won't be rushed, hehe. If he were in with my platys he'd starve  And while he gets on with his Otocinclus buddies or Corydoras I've never tried him with bright coloured fish.
