my cory died yesterday from reasons that i dont know of. He looked completely healthy, but did have some wierd behavior.

He would swim upside down alot getting air or something from the top of the water.

my water is normal, 0 ammonia and nitrite, 2,5 nitrate.

a couple hours before he died he would go to the bottom and lay sideways, but i tapped the glass and he continued to swim normal and didnt do it again till he died.

anyone know what happened so i can prevent it if it happens agian?

What else have you got in the tank/how long has it been going/everyone else ok etc?

What is the tempature, maybe there os a lack of oxygen getting to the bottom. I do not know obviously but will be able to think about it more when you give us more information about the set-up.

Sorry for your loss, it's horrible when it happens. :(

its been set up for 6 months about. everything else is completely fine, all the fish are fine. i have 4 platies and 2 corys, (well now 1 cory). in a 10g

temperature is about 78-80

when was the last water change? Have you started using any new products such as dechlorinator etc..?

hmm....well...i have never heard of that before and i have kept 10 cories in total and 3 died, they all died casue of different reasons but i they never died dat way, acually i dont think any1 know what happened (at least i dont know) :/

youve never heard of dechlorinator???? it is the chemical that is used to get rid of the chlorine in your water. It is needed as chlorine kills fish.

no new products. i did a water change last wed im pretty sure

neva heard of wut happened to his fish (the way his cory reacted)

hmmm....so how do you treat your water before you do water changes? Just straight out of the tap?

no! pour water in a "bucket" then wait 24 hrs, then i add da dechlorinator in the water then i pour it in to my aqarium afta wata changes, no duh

i just get tap water, put dechlorniator and do water change

the only thing i could think of is starvation. maybe he moved around the top so much because he never found food at the bottom.... ?

Did you not feed him?! I feed my corys catfish pellets. Many people just think of them as scavengers but I don't like to as this implies that they can fend for themselves in the tank. In my opinion corys need fed because if you are feeding flakes etc properly it shouldn't be hitting the bottom unless you want it to. They will scavenge all through the day but this should be in addition.

If you don't feed them specifically you should get some catfish pellets for your other one and once you have established it was not water quality that kiled the other one get another cory or more if you ahve room.

:)
