Hm... Those two things sound exactly the same to me lol.
It can't prove anything but apparently it's not fake or false... To me that doesn't make sense. But to each their own

I think we always have to maintain a grain of doubt. But there are strong theories with ample evidence. We may not be able to prove exactly how they work, but we have enough 'grounded' inferences from our knowledge that we can say they can't be disproved. Could better theories develop from what we know? Probably. But they haven't to this point, and we are able to disprove previous ungrounded theories at least.
It's safe to say Poseidon isn't annoyed, and the hurricane I went through last night isn't His work. Serious Poseidon theories aren't out there anymore.
Once you say there's 100% proof, you risk falling into faith, which in my world view is a terrible error. The author of the article you referenced is right about the need to remain skeptical in all things to avoid that common human pitfall.
With something like evolution, we can see ample evidence of the process. Darwin's idea has come a long way. Not too long ago, we didn't know about DNA, and we have learned fantastic things since we figured out and backed up that one. We don't know exactly how it works, in the small details, and probably never will. If we find life on other planets with radically different natural histories, it could get really exciting.
But at the same time, we are on the edge of an ancient philosophical game where we deny reality exists. That one was around when science got you into trouble with religion, and can't be resolved. A lot of physicists like to think the world can change on a dime, and maybe it can. We can prove some things as long as reality remains in its current state. Parallel universes would change that, but I keep a lot of skepticism for those concepts.

Regarding bettas-ok here is my unpopular opinion, i bred 8 spawns this summer, both parents taken out after breeding, eggs hatched artifically.
the breeding tank was half a gallon, so chasing around was minimum and breeding happened very fast, after eggs were hatched and free swimming, i keep them in 2 gallons container, shallow water about 2 inches untill they turn 1 months old, such a small container babies can find food very easy, every few days i do 100 % water change with no issues to fry no matter how young they were, i do have live plants with them all the time, at 1 month i move them to 5 gallon grow out tank, with water changes every day and tons of food, everyone is growing to adult size just fine, in my personal experience bettas dont need huge tanks to grow out fries or for breeding, at age of 2 month i jar them in 8 oz little containers, change water everyday and feed tons till they go home, everyone made it to adult age, i also dont cull. every breeder finds what works for them and this worked out for me just fine i live in florida, so was no need for heater and idont use filters, everytime i change water i add seachem prime and thats all, it is possible to own bettas and breed them and raise fry , without hundreds of gallons in fish tanks or too much space.

Id personally maybe switch the %100 change to a 75% or 85% but everything else id go with lol. And yes, a small shallow breeding container gets the job done much faster.

Technically no. All of that is just evidence to support a theory. Science itself can’t prove anything.

Gravity is a law, electricity is proven- go touch an electrical socket, microevolution is scientifically proven to be real, macroevolution IS a theory. They have no proof, it's just a big guessing game. No one was there. A great flood is scientifically proven. It was documented. There is a substantial amount of evidence. There are piles of focalized bones altogether, focalized shells and fish on mountain tops, etc.

As to many doing too many water changes I agree and don't as it all depends on the tank. A tank with artificial plants will require more water changes than a planted tank. Also a tank that is over populated will need more water changes. Also a tank with sponge filters will need more water changes than a tank with under gravel filtration. When I lived in Texas I had a 55 gallon tank that went over two years without a real water change. Vacuumed the substrate when needed and replaced water lost due to evaporation but no actual water changes for over two years.

Part of me wonders why we remove a bunch of water and replace with water that we treat to try to make just like the water we removed.

Your fish would have been suffering from old tank syndrome.

You do water changes for a number of reasons.
1) to reduce nutrients like ammonia, nitrite & nitrate.
2) to dilute disease organisms in the water.
3) to keep the pH, KH and GH stable.
4) to dilute nitric acid produced by fish waste and food breaking down.
5) to dilute stress chemicals (pheromones/ allomones) released by the fish.
6) to dilute un-used plant fertiliser so you don't overdose the fish when you add more.
7) to remove fish waste
