This is Martha.
Martha, as many of you know, is Tetraodon lineatus, a Fahaka Puffer and is considered by many to be the most vicious and aggresive freshwater puffer species on the planet.
A species so violent that they have been known to break aquarium glass with their teeth in an attempt to attack someone standing near the tank.

Julian is a Polypertus Ornatapinnis, an Ornate Bichir who is now pushing 18 inches in length.

We think that we have a Fahaka Puffer in a million because Martha has never shown the slightest inkling of aggresion towards us and tolerates Julian as if he's simply not there, even allowing him to perch on her back on his hourly patrol of the tank.

Maybe it's because Martha is very well fed, or because she's got used to my arm being in her tank two or three times a day evey day cleaning out the huge poops that appear in the tank, but Martha simply has never developed aggresion.

We continue to monitor Julian daily for signs of Martha's aggresion but have found none, not even bites to his large and colourful fins.

Awesome  Why is it that bichirs like to lay on other fish? My senegals pile up on little mo (Mogurnda gudgeon) when he rests
Nice to see that Julian is still in one piece :D

Yeah, why is that?? My senegal bichir likes to rest on or near any fish that will let him get close enough to do so.

Great pics of Martha, as always... and Julian is just stunning!!

Bichirs in the wild naturally huddle together in caves and holes during the day so i guess when they are kept with no other bichirs they will try to huddle up with any other fish present. I have 4 bichirs and during the day they can all be found under the same piece of bogwood piled up on each other.

They're great... what amazing fish. Just curious, what size tank do they live in? Do they have to have lots of hiding places etc? I'd love fish like that... when I have a place of my own and I can have as many fish tanks as big as I want, I'd love to keep big fish like you...

Martha's lovely, how's cookie by the way?

great pics once again!
