Unidentified Lump

Probably something simple, what are your tank stats? Could give a clue, it if what you mean ny the lump is that white spot on the fish it has probably been injured and it has become infected, it should clear up on its own if you keep your tank in tip top condition, if it gets worse then some treatment will be needed.

Cool fish! Never seen such bright eyes on a fish ;-)

Sure, I have ph around 7.8, TDS is around 215, GH 7, KH4, temp 24c (though it's been up to 25.8c in the last couple of days cos it's been hot).

The tank's not as well maintained as it could be but it's not dreadful. I have just bought an RO unit to drop my ph over the next month or two. I hadn't done a water change for a couple of weeks cos I was in the middle of sorting that out and was just going to wait till that was going but then the plumbing all went a bit tits up and I've been fixing that.

In terms of it getting injured, it may have been attacked by the male. This fish in particular has gone a bit hermaphrodite and has developed some male characteristics (only males are meant to have the coloured stripes at the top of the fins), so he might not be too chuffed about that.

Ok, I would just recommend doing a good sized water change, and repeat minimum once a week until it has cleared up. You should really be doing a 10% change minimum every week anyway. But a good sized water change now.. around 40-60% with lots of gravel vacuuming will remove alot of the nasty bacteria/fungus in the tank and reduce the likelihood of recurring infection. If it gets worse try to post a pic and someone will try to help ;-)
If it has been attacked by the male it will most likely just be a small infection that will clear up on its own.

Cool, thanks for the info. I've been doing a 10% per day for the last couple of days since it happened. I've also had my UV on for most of today, which I hadn't done for a while. Today it certainly looks no worse than yesterday and possibly a bit better.

Good just keep up with the water changes, keep an eye on the other fish too just incase it is bullying ;-) healthy fish are good healers ;-)
