A Koi Angel that I acquired from a tank purchase a few months back laid (infertile) eggs on side of filter today. I'm holding her for a friend who is taking her in this week. She was in a tank holding big catfish (up to 1 ft one of them) and a juvenile 7" Giant Gourami, which was mercifully bullying her, when I got her! If I hadn't bought the tank and put her in her own tank she would've died for sure.

Anybody else ever rescued fish from unfit owners??

I might talk my mate into getting a Bloke for her... poor Gal!! B)

I took a pleco from a friend of my son's - 14 year old kid who know nothing about keeping fish. He was in a ten gallon tank with some guppies until the guppies all died. I guess the kid took his time dealing with the dead fish, when I saw the pleco he was so covered with ich he looked like he had fur. His fins were basically gone, just spines left. I put him in my tank (fortunately it was empty and just finished cycling) and nursed him to the point he looked like a fish again. Much "Ich away", water changes, etc.

He was too big for my tank so he's now happily swimming in a huge tank at a local conservation education facility. He causes quite a bit of interest, everything else on display there is native to Ontario.

I'm still annoyed more at the parents kid over the fish - you'd think they'd notice something was wrong with the tank when all the fish died.

i've rescued quite a few fish. my larger red devil was rescued. his owner was fighting him against other fish. really beat up when i got to him. also have gotten fish from lfs that had ich on them, treated them and then donated them to the science class at my kids school. one lfs in particular by me always has "used" fish for sale that are beat up. owners sell them cause they are too wimpy.

went to walmart the other day. all of the fish in their tanks had ich. asked the store manager what they were going to do about it. he said he did not know. i talked him into letting me come in and treat the fish. were too many of them to take home. my husband might of divorced me after that! so every night i go and do the water changes, medicate and salt the tanks. it makes me feel better knowing the fish are being cared for and customers are not taking home diseased fish to their own tanks.

wal-mart sell fish? weird, I don't think it would catch on if tesco's or sainsbury's started selling live fish, pets etc. But you never know.

I for one wouldn't buy from a super/hyper market as I prefer the small lfs who is more knowledgeable, aware etc.

maggie, you are a really good sport. I sometimes buy fish from Wal mart to rescue them, but you take time to go take care of other people's fish! :D That's a truly selfless act.
I got a pregnant guppy from Wal Mart that was being chased to death. Unfortunately, she didn't live long after the birth, but I now have some beautiful guppies from her.

About a month ago i took on 2 angel fish, 2 tinfoil barbs, 1 painted glass and 2 black widows from a friend who's tank was so nast and dirty. The fish all had severe fin rot. And my 1 tinfoil barb had severe finand tail rot and one of his eyes was cloudy and nasty. I bought them there own tank, beings i didnt want to add them to my own 55 gallon, and medicated them. They are all doing well now. Even my tinfoil, whom i thought wasnt gonna make it, looks great. I cant stand to go in to stores(walmart) and see sickly fish swimming about or deads laying all over the bottom and the others eating them. I ,like you, would love to rescue them all, but hubby would crap

i really hate to see any fish get abused or neglected. i also got a lab, not to get off the subject, who was abused as a puppy. i took my daughter to school and heard this strange sound coming from the dumpster. on the way back i checked it out and there was a little puppy not even four months old. was cut up and had flies laying eggs in the wounds. took him to the vet. vet said he was a mix, more than likely rottweiler. looked like someone was using him to make other dogs fight and he was the punching bag. he thinks i am his mom now. he's a great dog almost two years and still dumb as a rock! but loveable.

my husband would take the mother of all monster s _ _ ts if i brought home all the fish i saw. only noticed walmarts cause i go there to get the carbon. really cheaper.

I think we'd all do the same Maggie! (take the fish home, that is :p ).

Delivered the angel to her new home tonight, took her no time at all to settle in. I'll keep tabs on her to see how she does.. :)
