so what are undergravel jet system? and are they good for the tank. do they help out? what are they mainly for?

Hi toebash17, undergravel filter systems use the gravel bed as your filter. Not a very effective compared to other filter systems. Detritus tends to accumulate underneath the UG filter and produce toxic chemicals. The UG filter is not easy to clean. You would have to remove the gravel to get to the UG filter plates.

UGJs are not related at all to under gravel filters.

UGJs basically take an submersible pump and attach it to a system of DIY pipes or tube run under the gravel or sand. This system has 2 or more outlets right at the substrate level. There are a few reasons you might want to set a UGJ system up, but the main reason is improved tank circulation and the fact that, if setup properly, it can keep the poo off the substrate and in the filters where it belongs.

Here's a great article on setting one up: http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/ug_jets.php

Good luck!
