im moving all my main tanks to my breeding room one by one, in a situation b/c i removed all my livebearers and other fish, the tanks that are already cycled are full with fish so i cant put my cories in there as would only cause me a problem, ive got about 1 week before their tank is ready for them, but since i left them on their own theyve decided to spawn, what DIY thing can i make or use to house these eggs until they hatch. ATM i managed to put a breeding trap underneath them and stick them to the sides of the trap, added a small airation to help with water flow but this isnt gunna be such a good idea due to the space of the trap and also the slits in the sides which the fry when hatched will get out of.
do i just abandon the eggs and hope that they will survive in the main? ( i moved them b/c they were quickly being eaten by the cories) or what?

any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Yes many will consider them a tastey snack, so it is good that you have protected them.

You can use just about anything to hatch them and grow the fry: tupperware, plastic sweater box...I used an Eclipse 3 tank for my first hatches and the filter was not too strong for the fry. Whatever you use, put an air stone in under the eggs to help them with fungus and to get to the top when they hatch. You can add some Maroxy or meth blue or any antifungal if you think you may need help with fungus. There is a pinned topic at the top: Cory faqs I think posted by INchworm. It is a detailed method of dealing with Cory eggs and fry. It is not the only method and it may take a few trys to develop a good method that works for you, but it is fairly basic to the separate tank method.

What kind of Corys are you breeding?

Good luck!

cheers for that info, will sort out a tub for them tomorrow.

what cories? I think they are the albinos as I have quite a few in there but ive also got pygmy cory in there too, but its more than likely to be the albinos due to the size of the eggs and one of them turned a lovely peach colour whilst chasing another one around, theres a clear difference in size between the 2 that looked like they were courting, so they must be the guilty ones  .
never intended to breed them as just used them as a clean up crew, but nice to know that there is a pair in there somewhere.

Post pics if you get fry--or of the eggs.

Yes the lady can be easily twice the mass of a male in most Cory species.

not the greatest pic im afraid, the eggs are developing well and should hatch tomorrow sometime, so will hopefully get a pic of the fry as well.

Good luck with this! I haven't had any probs with my corys laying eggs...every few months regular as clockwork, totally au naturelle. :D

The two times I've managed to save some of the eggs from my rainbows and tetras, I removed them and put them in a giant marge tub with water from the main tank with a tiny drop of methyl blue. They all hatched (last time there were 50+) and I added an airstone and kept the tub on top of the main tank. The first time the fry all died in the space of a few days and last time they all survived over a week before dying.

Next time I am going to use a fry cage (with sterilised tights over it as the weave is a bit big on the net supplied), and hopefully I may have more luck keeping them in the main tank but out of harms way.

Looking forward to more news on this :D

How do you sterilise tights? And congrats on the eggs man!
