SO today I got a bunch of goldfish to feed to my friends fish and I was looking at them and one looks just like a Rosey Red Minnow but was the size of a golfish. It had the same bodey and fins as my Rosey Reds so do you think I have a giant Rosey Red or what?

No I am sure its a minnow. Moves like one faster than a goldfish:) thankyou though

How big was it? Rosy reds get to be a little over 3 inches, while goldfish can grow much larger than that.

And since you mention goldfish feeders, your friend may want to read this by nmonks, as goldfish and minnows are both terrible choices for feeder fish :good:.

Here's an extract:

Goldfish and rosy red minnows can be easy to breed, but they suffer from being high in the chemical thiaminase. They must not be used as the staple diet, because over time they will prevent the predatory fish from having enough vitamin B1, which will cause serious health problems. The muscles, bones, and nerves appear to be most seriously affected.

Using cheap fish from your local pet shop is a poor alternative; by any objective standard the risks are high. Quarantining and treating feeder fish with anti-parasite and anti-bacteria drugs may be an option, but if you aren't prepared to do this, you would be wise to pass over this source of feeder fish.

He is around a little less than 4 inches. I think he is just a huge birth defected minnow because he looks nothing like a Gold Fish. I named him Godzilla:) If it turns out he is a goldfish I think he has a birth defect or something. Though I know not much about goldfish

Sounds like a possible adult size, fishbase actually state they reach 10cm/3.9"
:good: .

Then also I've read rosy eds are hybrids of different species, meaning varying sizes is even more likely.

I guess possibly an oddly shaped young comet, but minnows are fairly distinctive from goldfish and since they are used for the same thing and most likely bred at the same place, it's highly likely that minnows frequently get mixed in with the goldfish and vice versa.

Plus FBTgirl already has minnows and goldfish, so should be able to tell :good:.
