I bought several ghost shrimp some time ago, and they're doing well. However, I think this guy is NOT a ghost shrimp. You can't see through it, and it's twice the size of the other ghosties. Is it just a mutant, or some other shrimp?

First is the shrimp in question, second is one of the other ghosties.

Bump ...

I'd really like to know! I have been trying to google it, but can't find anything like him.

I noticed there are red bands on the antennae and red spots on the tail. Hmm.

Red Spotted Fresh Water Shrimp? (Macrobrachium sp.) They look like ghost shrimp but get much bigger.

I don't think so. Mine just has the rusty red spots on the tail and feelers. And then there's the vertical stripes.

Indian Glass Shrimp Palaemon sp. ?

In the photos I saw, I didn't see any of the rusty red.

Hmm, I'm definitely at a loss. You would know better than me as it's a bit more difficult to tell in a picture than in person. I thought for sure it was one of the two. I'll let you know if I find anything...maybe someone else can shed some light. Nice looking shrimp, I'm assuming he's getting along with the others?

Lol, that's good! The worst would be to wake up one day with 1 very fat shrimp

looks like a ghost shrimp to me :) ive had them for over 3 and a half years now...sometimes ill get one that's just foggy...or bigger...i don't know why:) if he was in a big tank when you bought him, he might just be big because he grew into the big tank...ive seen ghost shrimp that were about 5 inches long before! creepy......haha :)

It was in the same tank as all the rest of the ghost shrimp. I got these a couple of months ago and didn't notice any difference then.

How big is he?

And like I said i don't know why they get foggy like that, but every once in a while I'll get one that is like that :)

He's twice the size of the others, nearly 4 cm. And he's not cloudy, but has speckles and stripes and bits of red color.

all of mine are at least 4 cm...i have no idea why...but they are definately ghost shrimp..the biggest one was born in my tank...and ive had some that had different coloration and you couldnt see through them :) pretty sure its a ghost shrimp :)
