Hi all!

I have a python water changer system which looks like a great gadget - but I'm having problems fixing it to my kitchen tap. A garden tap would probably be fine, but my tank is next to the kitchen sink.

My tap is a standard fitting as this is a modern kitchen in a new build house.

Fish forums (as always!) is my last resort - I'm wondering if any UK python owners have solved this issue...

This is what my tap looks like (I've removed the part that screws in to give you an idea of size):

This is how the python is designed to fit the tap:

I have all these adaptors, none of which work:

I contacted Python directly and they said this:
The aerator in the center of your faucet head needs to be removed so the No Spill Clean N' Fill can attach to the threads on your faucet. If the brass adapter that comes with the cleaning system doesn't fit your faucet, you will need to take that aerator to a local hardware/plumbing store and find out what the threads are on your faucet to find the correct adapter.

So I went to my local Screwfix hoping for a solution. Everyone there looked at me with a blank expression saying something about my tap containing a metric fitting.

Finally I bought one of these hoping it would fit over the top:

Still no joy. Sadly doesn't fit.

Has anyone else achieved UK success with this? I can't believe it's so difficult to achieve something that should be so simple.

Cheers! :)

Do you know what brand of faucet you have?

From the first pic, it appears that the aerator is male-threaded, correct? Is the brass fitting too small or too large for the opening?

I think it's a Roca but can't be sure.

Please excuse my ignorance but I've no clue what male-threaded means. ????

The brass fitting is too large for the opening.

No problem..."male threaded" means the threads mount inside an opening....if the aerator was "female threaded", it would mount outside of an opening

Ooops, beat me to it, lol...have a look at the below link, and read the first rating by "channing" ... he's describing a faucet with a smaller opening than the original brass fitting will fit, but I have no idea if it is the same size hole as the one on your faucet...see the pics he posted, as well

Hmmm - this is indeed interesting. Thank you!

Guessing the one on the left is the standard adaptor and the one on the right is an add-on he's purchased:

Which screwed together look like this:

...but where to find one?!

Thanks this is a step in the right direction at least.

I'm guessing that is how it works, as well...check the UK version of Amazon, see if it's listed there, as well as the US version

More than welcome, good luck, hope it works out for you 👍

Also...just an FYI...those white washers on the adapters can be removed, to view inner threads, for more mounting options

Take your taps threaded fitting and your python fitting to a specialist plumbers merchants not screwfix. Graham’s plumbers merchants sorted my python connection problems, theyre a national chain.
Tell them you want to connect your python to the tap that your fitting connects too. It took the feller five mins backstage to figure mine out. Cost about £7iirc.
Best of luck.
BTW make sure when you’re refilling your tank that you’re squirting into something and not squirting directly onto the sand or gravel.

Thanks! It's good to know I'm not the only one struggling...good tip on tracking down a specialist merchant also. There are a few not far from me.

Hi all! Still struggling with this here.

I even went to Graham's plumbers merchants in Enfield (along with three others) and no one has the part to fit my kitchen tap...in a new build house (go figure!).

I have another tap out back, but this obviously wouldn't be temperature controlled. Does this matter for water changes? (the tank would heat fairly quickly after all). I want to avoid having to lug buckets backwards and forwards because weekly water changes need to be as simple as possible!

Thanks. :)

I tried numerous different size converters and thread attachments and in the end gave up and just used the rubber clamp that came with the python.
