UK floor loadings

Does anyone know from a residential construction point of view as to what the minimum floor loadings would be for new build apartment blocks in the UK.

I'm sure I'll be ok with 180 litres but it would be good to know that I am well within limits in case I want to upgrade at some point in the future.

I'm on the first floor of a converted Grade II listed mill, and the general quality of build is starting to cause me concern.

I'm sorry I can't help on your question, there is a member (can't remember the name) here that is, or has a father that is, a structural engineer. hopefully they will see this and be able to help you.

I just wanted to ask what kind of mill do you live in?
wind, water, cotton, other?
 
I think there's a weight conversion chart pinned to the "tropical chit chat" section.
Not meaning to sound odd, but what I reckon is that all flooring which has passed building regulations (e.g. newer building work) should easily be able to take the weight of 2 fairly overweight adults. If they're standing together cuddling , then their weight is not being spread any differently from a fish tank.
Admittedly, a fish tank will stay in one spot for a lot longer, but if you're WELL within those limits, must be OK.
PS -i know where you live... (am trying to sound like a scary stalker type here)
 
best thing you can do is find out who the contractor was if you dont already know & they should be able to tell you what the floor will take also what kind of wood floor is it? if it is laminate flooring then there is a strong possibility that it will be concrete & that should take the weight quite happy :D
 
It used to be a cotton Mill and those machines were quite hefty so hopefully I will be OK.

I'm renting and the Landlord has said I can have a tank so I should be covered.
 
Where I used to live, I had a 140g in a first floor flat, but then they were relatively new flats and the floor was a block and beam floor (reinforced concrete beams with concrete beams in between). If it is a coverted listed building, I would be a bit more concerned. It would obviously have had to pass minimum building spec, but I would suggest getting in contact with the local NHBC (National House-Building Council) as they should keep records of any building work and may be able to answer your question.
Personally, I think that 180 litres is not that much and you should be fine, but I'm not a structural engineer, so who am I to say?!!! :lol:
