The perfect shop to help you start out

I recommend them

BAS in bolton
Variety 10/10 very good always find something there of interest. Plants on a separate scale 5/10 pretty poor i don't buy plants from them.
Quality 8/10 some tanks could do with some cleaning and sorting out. But the fish are mostly in good nick.
Service 7/10 I would rate them a lil higher but they are not sure on sum fish, Unfortunately one worker bag up a silver arowana in too smaller bag and i believe this has bent the spine on my arowana. (i could be wrong but until proven otherwise ill stick to my theory.)
Good shop for a day out and for impulse buys.

Hiya. Got to agree with BTT. Inside Outside aquatic in Haddington are fantastic for plants, (nothing but the best).

The new aquatics in Macmerry, would def recommend, PHIL (THE OWNER) is getting new fish in every week and has said that after the year he is getting all tanks/plants all stocked up.

they have the biggest selection of tanks i have ever seen, he also price matches everything in stock.

Very child friendly, Easy Parking, Drinks facilities, Knowledgable staff.

A BIG 10/10 FOR ME

Zoe :good:

Erm... A bit off topic.. but er... you look yummy!!!

Ely Aquatics - Ely, Cambridgeshire

Couldn't have had better service! Very helpful staff who never push you into a sale.

Variety- 9 ( smallish store but will order pretty much anything in on request)
Staff- 10
Quality of fish- 10

When i got my tank they talked me through the cycling process and insisted i brought water samples in for them to test before they would sell me any fish. Explained everything and never pressured me to buy anything.

I bought a plant from another fish store ( not that i can remember where it was) and after putting it in my tank ended up with some worm like parasite in my tank. I went into Ely aquatics and asked what products i needed to treat the fish, they actually offered to set up a hospital tank FREE OF CHARGE to treat my fish, while i delt with the tank ( which i ended up stripping and recycling as the parasite had gotten into the under gravel filter, the decorations etc)

If you buy your fish from them they also offer a service of if you are suffering from unexplained fish deaths you can take a newly deceased fish in and a water sample they test your water and will perform an "autopsy" to try and determine the cause so you can nip it in the bud.

They also have a "holiday tank" you can use if you are going to be away for long periods of time with no one to look after your fish, can bring all your fish in ( and your filter too) and they will fish sit for you.

Couldn't ask for better service!

Water Wonders

Gorgie Road, Edinburgh

Pretty much the only fish shop I go to.

VARIETY OF STOCK
7/10
Hardware is kept on the ground floor and fish in the basement. It's currently having a revamp and expanding it's small marine section. the rest of the basement has tropical and coldwater fish and a good amphibian section, quite a nice variety of tropicals from your basic neons to oscars and some really odd fish i've never seen before!!! Well stocked hardware section with all the basics you'll need for a tank. Good variety of bogwood and stones and live/plastic plants and any other bits for your tank, I've neer needed to look elswhere for my tank hardware.
QUALITY OF STOCK
9/10
I have only ever seen one dead fish in the two years I've been going there. The tanks are crystal clear and the fish are very healthy.
SERVICE PROVIDED
9/10
Currently has 3 staff. The owner knows everything about fish!! They also have a guy who has kept and bred fish for over 10 years and knows a lot about plants. They are always up for a chat and are very friendly and passionate about fish which is nice :)

I know it's suppose to be out of 10, but this shop is a prime example of what a fish store should be. The fish health ALWAYS comes before money, and the customer service is commendable. I wish all stores were like this. :good:

There are some hugely mixed comments on some of the stores in this thread and opinion is always valid whether it is positive or negative.

I'd be very interested if anyone has popped along to my new place of work which is at Pets at Home Aquatics Centre in Cheltenham. Hopefully people will find that the quality of the fish and also the advice you can recieve will be very good. We also now sell marines that I look after myself!

Any comments by anyone who has visited would be greatly appreciated!
