Hi all I am kinda new to fish........I have a 125 gallon tank ....and in my tank I have Disca.... angel fish.... catfish....sharks.....

well I had 3 discas and 2 died and now i have 1 left and its dying I also has 3 african frogs there gone now also

we had the water checked and its fine....

but the fish had a white like spots on them and the pet shop said we had a fungas well we treated em and now the fish that are alive are real sluggish and not moving around alot like they used to

so something is wrong how do i tell what is wrong?????

im scared the rest of my fish are going to dye and ugh i dont want that to happen :(

were they small flecks of white or a large grouping of white? could of been ich. with ich just cause you cure the fish that is infected does not neccessarily mean that you got rid of the parasite. the fish only shows symptons of the parasite when it finds the host.

what is the temp in your tank?

mylsia,

Hi and welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear about your troubles. Let's see if we can't pinpoint the root cause of your problems....

First, Discus are a very shy, retireing fish and should not be kept with anything that will cause it stress. Angel fish are one such fish!!!

You did not mention what type of "sharks" you have, but I will guess that you have silver or as we call them bala sharks. If this is so, these fish are very active and should be kept in small groups to do well. Therefore they are also not a good choice for tankmates for Discus.

What type of catfish do you have?? Some may grow very big and not be suitable for a discus tank....

IMO the tank mates you had in with your Discus may have been creating a stressful environment for them and thus allowed the disease outbreak to occur.

You may want to try a partial water change of say 25% every couple of days and see if this improves the sluggishness problem.

As Maggie said we also need to know what the "white flecks" looked like. Did it look like someone had sprinkled the fish with salt?? If so this would be ich and NOT a fungus problem.

As soon as you let us know exactly what the flecks looked like we can advise you further on a good course of action.

also discus are very fussy and imo should only be kept with their own species for the fact they they require an almost sterile environment with daily water changes. me, i will stick with my crud bugs. the majority of discus tanks are barebottom and void of any type of decor.

African frogs are not known for their intelligence and often go into the filter and get sucked down and drown. Could they have got in the filter? If so, I learnt from sad experience that they make a beeline for it and end up in froggy heaven.
