(I'm new, BTW)

I'm getting quite irritated...I REALLY, REALLY want a severum tank. However, I've been told I can't keep them with my precious yoyos and striatas. The striatas are currently living in my 29 gal community, where they're perfectly fine, but I wanted that tank to be an amazon bio-type, so I was going to move them. My yoyos live in my 20 long convict tank, but I *beleive* I was told they need a 55 gal to be happy, so I was going to get them one. But after a while, I've come to realize that I want FAR too many kinds of tanks (I have plans for a 125 gar tank, which I'll actually NEED for my common pleco, another 20 long tank for brichardis and dickfeldis, and a 10 gal planted for a pair of dwarf gouramis). I'm NOT rich, I can't afford this many tanks. Currently, I can afford a 55 gal tank, and maybe the 10 gal. IF I buy these tanks used, and scimp on the lighting. The 10 gal can of course wait longer. I really, really want the 55 gal for severums, though. I have the space for it laid out and everything. So, my question...

How large of a tank does a trio of yoyo loaches actually need?
If they can stay in the 20 long, that'd be great. If they need larger...well...I'm going to be dissapointed and have to skip the severums and get angels or something not quite as cool like them (don't get me wrong, I LOVE anels, I just want something different).

Thanks!

Why can't the loaches go with severums? The sevs are too slow to catch loaches, and loaches usually come out at night, when severums sleep :)

I was told that sevs dig alot as they age, and that they'd prolly kill my yoyos by accident. I was thinking about putting a nice loach system under the sand to lessen the problem. I'd use those curved pvc pipes to create under gravel caves. Do you think that would protect the yoyos any?

I think I've decided to move the striatas into my "pleasant" convict's tank rather than into the large tank. If they don't bother him, he won't bother them.

I've got a full (nearly) grown Severum, and he's as peaceful as you like. He doesn't dig that much at all really, just the occasional nudge around in the gravel, and certainely not aggressively enough to kill anything by accident!!
I would probably suggest that you add the severum after the loaches though, as I tried adding new fish to the tank now, and he doesn't like it at all!!! Everyone says they are peaceful, and for the most part I agree, but seeing him go into full attack mode and literally jumping out of the water and hitting the lights was pretty mad!!! :D

Thank goodness, lol! That really is good news...all that fretting about sevs and yoyos was really getting to me. I think I'll go over to the new world forum and ask everyone there about their sev experiances with digging :)
Now I can't wait!
