Hi, as we move to our next house, within 1 year or so. I will be looking at having an open plan, with a room large enough for a tank that goes around the room with the walls (not attached to the walls. Basically, I want brick wall looking stand right the way around the room giving it a furniture look, to keep the missuss happy. The tank will sit on this right the way around the room. My question really is, will it be possible for a manufacturers to build this tank? There is a basic paint drawing below of what I want. I have a feeling that the corner tank effect at each corner would be a problem to build for something that will hold this much water. I have no idea about DIY tbh and as such will be paying a company to come in an build this for me, so was hoping someone could help if this is possible? I am hoping for 3ft wide running down the length of 3 walls, and maybe a bit of the last wall.

I think this would be manageable to build but I also think that support would be an issue. A tank of this size full of water would be extremely heavy and could potentially need a concrete base for support. I'm not too sure if basic floorboards would hold such weight.

Yeah, I have a friend who is a surveyor so he will hopefully be advising on that score. Basic floorboards wont be an option with this.

It's good to hear you've thought about that. We don't want you moving into a house and flooding it! :p

What I would do is contact some companies via email asking if they would be able to build the tank for you and if so, at what cost.

Anyone know of good companies that build these kind of things

Cheers, pretty much starting from scratch here, which is why have put it up so early. Generally looking for ideas and such from people with a lot more experience than me of dealing with external builders or building their own.

What height would you be wanting? I think if you went for a more direct Linear C shape (so across, down, across) and stuck to say 30" tall by 3ft wide and as long as required it shouldn't be too hard to achieve.

NDaquatics do large scale tank builds on site

Is it just the way the image is drawn or does the image above show the tank to have 4 different sections?

Cheers davo. That's how it originally was in my mind. However, I added the corner parts as I thought it would give me more space to build territories. I was hoping to get a good group of Breeding Convicts, along with maybe a couple of other types of easy to breed Cichlids. The backs of the corners was were I planned on creating territories for them. Obviously the fry would be a supply of food within the tank then too.

I do still like that idea of a 'C' and can probably still do the Cichlid idea with that. The rest of the fish wont be tank busters. I plan on keeping a large amount of Oddballs around 1-2ft. Bichirs, Knifefish etc...

Cheers, awaiting a quote from aquarium architecture now, spoke to the guy last night. Need to start thinking stocking through now. I am determined to keep differing types of Oddballs in this, nothing over 2ft, and that will only be my Ornate Bichir. I am actually mostly looking forward to getting a large school of Elephant Noses in it.

I'm looking forward to finding out the water capacity of the tank! :hyper:

Im looking forward to the quote from AA. They have great standards and are probably one of the best custom tank/designers in the world so services are not going to be cheap.

Kind Regards,

Adam
