A few weeks ago my first betta (a red male VT) died and I've been looking for another one to replace him. I was in PetsMart last week and saw these two guys. I bought them both and divided my tank so I could keep them.

The red one's name is Lestat and the while one's name is Haku-Jin (which apparently means whiteboy in Japanese). I'm still learning how to take pictures of fish so I appologize for the photo quality.

This is the whole tank (you can see the cories in the back).

tempestuousfury: While he is named for the vampire, thus far he has been the more passive of the two, which is why he's on the side with the cories.

Good. Then maybe you should have named him Louis.

Good pictures, by the way. The quality is very good.

According to my little Japanese dictionary, Hakujin means 'white person', while listed under 'haku' as a word alone are the three following definitions:

1. Put on, wear.
2. Sweep.
3. Vomit, spit. (my fav lol)

Looked up boy on the english side and it said the japanese noun for boy is shonen (with a line across the o, which I don't know how to type in)

Don't we just love foreign names lol?

If you get a particularly small and vicious female betta some time you could call her Claudia.....

Love the pics!!!

They are having a bubblenest war :hyper: :flex:

Very nice bettas and I'm sure their happy in their new home!

Then there's the simple slang term for a white person, Shiro.

I LOVE Hakujin. Beautiful fish

they look so pretty!!!! what kind of divider do you use?? i just made my own but i don't know if it will be sturdy enough since i don't think i'll put gravel in my tank (i've yet to put water and get it cycled). i used those plastic canvas for cross stitching and binder strip from the clear report covers....

The divider is made of plastic needlepoint canvas (so exactly what you made yours out of). It sits under the lip at the top of the tank and is held in place by the gravel. If you're not going to put gravel in the tank you're going to need some way to anchor the sides.
