two males, one tank, no devider, no fighting

No I never saw that the person said that because after they said they didn't fight they snapped some pics and returned them. I didn't read the rest.........sorry. And ATTENTION TO ALL BEGGINERS AND NEWBIES DO NOT PUT TWO BETTAS TOGETHER, REPEAT DO NOT PUT TWO BETTAS TOGETHER. JUST BECAUSE IT WORKED THE FIRST TIME FOR THIS PERSON, DEFININTLY DOES NOT MEAN IT WILL WORK FOR YOU, THIER IS A 1 AND 1000,000,000,000 CHANCE THAT CAN HAPPEN. SO DO NOT PUT TWO BETTAS TOGETHER. Whew I think I made that very clear, what do you all think?

I know ur a mod and all, but you may have made him pretty upset. Just dont' blurt things out.

 *agrees with Wuv*

Please, DO fix that divider or just put one in a seperate tank and give one of the boy's the big tank to himself. It's not fair to keep them there if they are getting through the divider constantly ~ I've heard you say they were "swapping sides" several times. As all of the experienced Betta keepers have said before... its not IF the boys will attack each other, its just WHEN! In the pictures you posted, the orange VT was clearly flaring at the lilac. It's not a good idea - for anyone!!

Durbkat ~ If male Bettas WERE friendly with each other, they wouldn't be Bettas anymore. They'd be community/schooling fish who looked like Bettas. Aggression is a huge part of the male Betta (and some females) genetics and behavior... to make such docile Bettas would undoubtedly affect every other aspect of Bettas - their beautiful flaring, their attitude, breeding rituals, EVERYTHING! No, they were not "meant" to be friendly. They were meant to be kept in completely seperate territories. I think the end results of these Betta boys getting into each others sides clearly shows that even if they *seem* somewhat docile, they're unpredictable :sly:

indeed. if you'll notice in the picture of the two together, the orange one is in fact flaring his gills. while the two did not actually fight, there is pictoral evidence of aggression and territoriality!

Nevermind that I've even said anything so please leave me out of this and continue as if I never posted here.

I suggest you try not blurting out . I highly doubt I've upset dd, we've posted here together for quite some time and he knows how I feel about him which is why I refrained from saying more than I did, because I know he's not just some newby who doesn't care about his fish. Think twice before you post again.

This thread turned wicked really fast. :(

I hope someone closes this soon...

BTW, I forgot to say, my fish Ula will jump from anything, so I just cut a piece of plastic canvas to fit over his tank under the hood and touching the divider. Problem solved!

whoa, this went way out of control.

Let me explain what happened because i oviously never explained well.

My thread for dummies:

I had a three way divided tank.
One of them jumped to the other side.
They wernt fighting so i quickly snapped shome shots(hence the bad photos)
They were in there for less then a minute.(it would take nearly an hour for a Betta to kill another one IMO)
I originally thought one of them jumped to the other side, i was mistaken when i learnt tat the dividers left gaps in the side due to the suction cups and they got through again and fought.
I left my CT in the 20g
My Orange VT is in a 0.5 gal untill i can get something else for him
My PK is in a 1.5 gal bowl.
My Lylac/Blue Vt is in a roughly 0.5 gal breeders net.
The one who got the most damage was the VT because he was the smartest to get through the gaps, the others ignored it. I am now currently working on regrowing the fins on this fish. It is happy, eats well and flares at a mirror.
The only reason it flared in that picture was because there was another Betta, natural instinct, i know it is also natural for them to fight but i never wanted to leave them in there long enough to see if it would happen.
I WOULD NEVER DO THIS ON PURPOSE.IT HAPPENED ON ITS OWN. NEVER,EVER DO THIS WITH YOUR BETTAS. I DONT PLAN ON DOING IT AGAIN

I never got upset by Wuv's comment, i never thought it through before posting these pictures and understand what her and others feel about this. I would feel the same way to.
Pica is right, i don't mind if this thread gets locked or even deleted.

I hope now you guys understand, wasn't an experiment,it just happened and i had my camera next to the tank and never thought out what would happen if i piosted these pics, i will think it through next time.

No further comments need to be said.

DD

DD - just to clarify, I know you didn't to it to experiment; that comment was directed towards another poster who thought trying it would be a good idea. I know you love and care for your fish, and would never deliberately endanger them.

I see it like this:because we know dd and know he's a good fishkeeper it sort of gave a wrong impression/example to newer members. Now,had this been a new member's first post...would everyone have been just as receptive? I don't think so.

i would not get on dwarf dudes case about this, iv known him awhile on this forum and its not liek him to mis treat his fish, we al experiment, we all have accidents, and what better person to fix it all but someone who knows exactly what their doing. if anything at all we can take away from this what was alredy known, 2 males bettas cant live together, might be possible, but very unlikely.
