I just finished making a new shelf in the cabinet of my larger tank for my canister to sit on when I noticed how easily I could see into the bottom of the filter in its new position.
I got a torch and had a look to see how much stuff was collecting in there. To my horror I found a platy fry stuck between the media trays
. I quickly dismantled the filter and rescued the fry, then I discovered about 6 more happily swimming around in the bottom part that has no media. Wondering what to do as they were clearly not safe to go back into the tank I remembered the super simple 5 minute sponge filter. So I grabbed a flake container and filled it with a bit of gravel from the tank and some sponge and made an emergency fry tank in a bucket.
I am not happy about the situation and putting the fry through that but I am pretty happy about my DIY talents.
