I haven't gotten another female yet, but I think I will..I'm such a sucker.

I was wondering how big of a bowl/tank I would need for two females.

I think I've finally figured out how to get unique colored betts. Tomorrow I go to my lfs, and check out their new batch of bettas ( finally figured out when their shipment of bettas come in every week). I'm going to try and find a yellow/orange betta. I swear this will be my last male betta...famous last words.

P.S. The bettas have been moved into the bedroom which is slightly cooler than the rest of the house, so I am going to have a table lamp above their bowls to keep their water a little warmer. About how long should I keep the light on to keep the water about the right temperature?

I caution you to be on the lookout when you put a new female betta in with your current one. Although I read time and time again that females are okay together, I have not had this experience. I put four females in a ten gallon tank a while back; the story is that the more females you have, the more they'll spread their aggression around and the less troubles you'll have. OMG Not true in my case. INSTANTLY (and I mean instantly) one of the females started literally tearing the others apart. I netted her out as quickly as my hands would move and INSTANTLY another female took up the role of tank bully and started tearing into the remaining two. One of the poor victims died as a result of her injuries; the other three are doing beautifully - in separate tanks.

I know that not all females are equally aggressive; one of mine lives in my guppy tank with no problems. I put another one in my guppy tank after the disaster in the ten and she ripped the tails off a couple of male guppies in short order.

Thank you so much for sharing. I'll just stay on the safe side and keep them seperately. Especially since my current one was being picked on at the lfs.
