I have two issues at hand...

1. I went to the LFS for snails and saw a GSP in the DP tank. I practically live and work there, so they gave him to me for free. :D I think someone returned him (I can imagine the person exclaiming, "...but it ate all my fish!") because he is 2 1/2" instead of the typical 1 1/2" or so that you normally find them at the store. Since he's larger he should have made him way into saltier waters by now...right? If I get the OK I am going to turn an empty tank (water, no fish) into brackish...I know the steps I've done it before.

2. I have a BBG that stayed in my 20glong when I made the move from brackish to marine with it. He's doing fine...actually his colors and appetite have never looked better. The tank is at 1.023 right now, but I'm turning it into reef, so I think it's better I get him back into brackish. Now THIS is something I've never done. Bringing a fish from higher SG to lower. Suggestions???

I have a 2 1/2g empty Q tank. Could I use that to bring his SG down? Perhaps instead of adding salt for water changes, add a bit more plain water? I don't have a problem keeping nanos stable so that's not an issue.

Thanks ahead of time!

To re aclimatise the goby to brackish water use the drip method as decribed in the guide to brackish tank artical pinned in the top of this forum. Im suprised that a BBG has survived being kept at such a high SG, these are low end brackish fish that never stray further than the FW mouths of rivers as they empty into esturies and so do not usually do well in a SG over 1.008, i took the SG of my smaller brackish tank up to 1.010 and the BBGs became clearly distressed until i reduced it back down to 1.006.

A 2.5" GSP should be in slightly salted water but nothing more than 1.010 until it is at least 6 inches.

My BBG has been in that SW tank for about six months. Freak of nature or not, who knows. Here's a picture of him taken maybe a month ago.

I saw a few young BBG's at the LFS and they're sooo tiny. I hadn't realized how much mine has actually grown. He's full size already. The ones they had were so greyish and mundane. I felt bad.

Do you think I would have issues by buying a couple of the young ones? I'd be adding the current one after, so I would think that would alleviate some stress or territorial issues...what do you think?
