Hey all,

I picked up two turtles today, they were marked up as yellow belly turtles, and they were in a tank, with red belly, map, yellow ear and red ear turtles.
Now after spending some time looking at them i thought "hrm... these two look different to each other" now more than a few hours looking on the net I do believe one is a yellow-bely slider, and the other is a cumberland slider.
I have read they grow to about the same sizes and are pretty much indifferent of each other.

Can anyone be sure what these are at such a small size?

Turtle 01

Turtle 02

I did have more of 02, but the cam didnt seem to save em, and i thought that was enough stress for them for today. Sorry for the poor quality the light in this room is rubbish and it was my webcam, as my digi-cam is dead...

Turtle02 has a similar coloured carapass (is that right?) but its green and not as elaborate.

Now the lamp I have for them emits heat and UVA but not UVB from what I can remember, its a turtle tuff lamp. I have read that they can gain UVB from cichlid food, there are some arguements against this though.

Can anyone clarify if the lamp does give off UVB or not?

Also I have been told to provide them with calcium, via a cuttlefish bone, calcium sprinkled on their food, through calcium based substrate. I am currently using sand as a substrate as I use this in all my tanks apart from my zebra plec tank, which have river stones and gravel. So whats the best route then? cuttle fish bone?

And for some more info, they are currently in a 15gallon tank, and they will be moved to a 35gallon when bigger, with prospects of either a pond or large tank later in life, when they get big :D
