Has anyone made a Turtle dock or a kind or Aquarium shelf? Have a Turtle tank setup at moment and need a couple of ideas of the best way to make a kind of Turtle Dock, they have them on Ebay but I refuse to pay £25 for a piece of pony foam.

Has anyone done anything like this or have any idea how this could be done?

Any and all ideas welcome.

could you not just silicone a bit of glass out from the side of the tank? if you know what i mean???

Yeah I suppose so, just never done anything like that and not sure how easy/fiddly it will be, plus the tank is ready for him also it would kind of need to be a rough surface for him to climb and glass isn't rough.

Think I solved the problem though by holding some bog wood up near the top of the tank with some of those sucker grips you get with the heaters.. Still thinking though.

Cheers for the idea though :good: I will have a look at that bit more when I have the time.

I was going to suggest a piece of acrylic which has been roughed up with a sander, then spread aquarium safe silicon on it. Once done pour light gravel all over it, this will provide something for him to grab on and look natural :)

Go to Wickes and buy some polystrene sheet. Carve a nice rock shape, then use a blow torch or a heat gun to give it a nice texture. Then paint it a nice colour and then coat it in eurathane varnish, which is aquarium safe (check first though) then you can silicone that to the wall, and leave the bottom floating...

Thanks for that, both of those sound like really good ideas and something that should keep me occupied and away from spending money at the pub for a few hours  The first one sounds a bit easier especially for me, but I do like the sound of the second idea.

Cheers :good:

We actually have a piece of floating bark! Its supposed to be for a viv but its wedged across the back so it doesnt move. Not sure but i think it may rot eventually!

Well I have a few ideas now, either just making a shelf with some Acrylic or putting some acrylic brackets in on either side of the tank to hold some bog wood just out of the water, did think of just having something floating for him to climb on but not sure about it supporting the weight and how stable it would be.

what kind of turtle is this and how big is the tank? what kind of water and filteration? what will you feed him?

You could always get some slate and silicone some legs onto it, made out of clear acrylic. Get some clear acrylic tube from www.mutr.co.uk and cut it up and sillicone it to a peice of slate...

Here is a post from a turtle forum that should help you its very interesting:

You should look around that site its really informative and Im sure you could get a lot of info there. Im a member there and Ive been since last year, it helped me out a lot. If you have any other turtle questions you can ask me. I have a 2.5" RES in a 55 gallon long. I have a large Zoo-Med basking platform for mine that cost me much less that 25 pounds at a local Big Al's store. :D

Yellow Slider, the final tank depends on what one is easier to mess about with, with regards to making some kind of dock/shelf for him, hes only tiny at the moment so is just in a 3ft tank with internal filtration, feeding on water flea/blood worm and the occasional reptomin pellet but he doesn't seem too keen on them and prefers live food. Got various other tanks of different sizes and shapes but he seems happy enough at the moment in the 3ft.

£17.50 in Kent, I don't know much about Turtles at all so I don't know if this is a good price or bad price but I know I have seen them down the road from me here in London for about £60. Apparently they range in Sizes growing to either 5 or 8" again though I don't know too much about them just yet but I'm finding bits scattered about the internet. I found them in a dirty pet shop in Kent hidden away in a DIRTY tank sold by someone who claimed to know more about tropical fish than anyone else... We renamed him as the FISH BOY!

The tank is 18" Deep and holds about 42.3Gs Oh and his name is Ernie.. I did buy 2 at the time but have only kept 1 and gave the other 1 to my Girlfriend and her daughter has called him Monkey Bob

Well Ernie has been feeding on water flea/blood worm and the occasional reptomin pellet but he doesn't seem too like them and has started eating the freeze dried river shrimp.
