I've been feeding my rainbows pellet food and they will only seem to eat it when it floats to the middle and of course the food will fall fast to the bottom, my question is will they eat off the bottom? The gravel is a tan stone color and the food blends in with the gravel...should I change the color of the gravel so they can see the food or do they not eat off the bottom?

Rainbows do not venture to the bottom much, they are mid-to-top swimmers and even if there is food there they don't seem too interested in what is in the lower reaches of the tank. I've heard that live and frozen food is best to feed these beauties, but I'm sure flake food will suffice and it floats so they'll happily eat it. Best of all, it's cheap :D

EDIT: Another great thing about flake food is that pretty much any fish will eat it, so if it sinks to the bottom your bottom feeders will eat any leftovers
