Hi there everyone,

does anyone know if it is safe to turn a coldwater tank into a tropical? Its a 120L tank with 6 coldwater fish (gold and shebunkins) who are all very calm. My local favourite fishkeep told me it would be fine and that they are very resiliant, but I thought it best to get a wider opinion. Any suggestions for types?
:/
Thanks,
Greg

So you want to keep the Goldfish in the tropical temps? Why?

I wouldn't advise it, although they can survive those temperatures you have to consider that they are designed for cooler temperatures so their metabolic rate and other factors are affected when they are kept in higher temperatures.

I agree with ryan, goldfish are not meant for tropical tempatures. I think fancy goldfish do better at slightly warmer temps but not the common athletic kinds.

id be inclined to say yes if you live in a warm climate anyway but its not recommended ,a friend tried it once and lost a fair few of his cold water, also take into consideration diet differences ,cross contamination, and coldwater fish will be much larger eventualy than the tropical  not a good mix

My advice would be to get a second tank for the tropicals and leave the coldwater tank as it is. :D
Make sure to introduce yourself in the newbie section when you get the chance.
