Hello.
well ive gone and got me self a clear seal 3' x 2' x 2' lifespace marine tank. pick it up at the end of the month. just looking for some advice. not keepiing hard corals, just fish :hyper: . just need some advice on equipment, it comes with a external filter. just need light unit and best powerheads.... please help thanks in advance kenny

hello :)
welcome to the best side of fish keeping :D

First off, id recommend Koralis for flow over powerhead etc.

Youll need to get yourself a fair amount of Live Rock, this will act as your main filter, but having the external is great for picking up particles etc and for more filtration.

Do you have any ideas on the fish you want to have in your tank yet?

For fish only tanks with live rock, or FOWLR, ive always just used external filter and some koralias for lots of flow over rocks and tyhats pretty much it.

some people say to add a protein skimmer, but ive never used one, even on my reef tank.
Of course youll also need some good quality salt, ive always used Kent Marine, a large bucket that will do 740litres costs about £50 - £60

as for lighting, T5 marine whites or a mix of T5 whites and blues are fine for fish only :) plus it means that you can add corals later if you decide to, and trust me, most people do lol

Thanks. ive been looking at about 30kg of live rock. and for lighting aqua beam 600 ultra, live sand caribsea arag live bahama oolite, fish wise im unsure as the wife wants the stars of nemo lol but im a more oddball fish guy lol

lol, ah, the old nemo tank lol

in all honesty, the fish in the tank in nemo cant actually live together in a tank like that lol, but still...

clowns are fine, smaller fish like firefish, damsels etc. id avoid the tangs for a first tank, they can be a bit tricky sometimes, not all of them but the majority.

if you want oddball, why not a small lionfish? or a triggerfish of some kind? lots of the best fish cant live with each other, which is anoying but there are plenty to choose from :)

WELCOME TO THE SALTY SIDE KENNY!! :good:

You won;t look back

Simon :good:

Welcome to the salty side! I have been in it for 3 weeks and I am already planning a size increase! You are lucky to be starting out with a bigger tank!

Wellcome to the salty side, you tank is a bit to small to house tangs. When they get older they get big and need lots of space, they tend to get stressed without lots of swimming room.

I have an external filter but you dont need one, just get 2kg per 1g of live rock and 2 powerheads to create flow over the rock and thats your filter.

Defo good advice on the salt, get a decent salt.....after all if your spending all that money setting up a salty tank (we all know how expensive it is) whats an extra few quid on some decent salt.

I would also recommend moonlighting, I got my leds from eBay which cost £15 and well worth it. It allows my fish to wake up gently in the mornings without 2 bright lights just comming on straight away and also lets them wind down a bit before the light goes out.

ah thanks guys. cant wait 2 get the tank. when we went into the lfs the wife was like a school kid  just need 2 shift the juwel vision 180 into another room 2 get space in the living room now  lol
