Can Betta's get tumors. Well, my betta has a buldge on the top of his head(nose), and there is a spot where it is really white. Last look a week or so ago and he did not have it. What could it be? Need some help. Thanks for all your help in advance.

uhhhh....wow
That is massive, but he appears healthy otherwise (appears to be anyway) How is he acting, is he lethargic?

They DO get tumours, but that's not something you can really treat for. Did it just suddenly show up or has it grown slowly over time?

In the worst case scenario, I found these :/
Lymphocystsis
A viral disease that causes the host cells to swell up giving rise to tumours, that almost look like spawn (granular) attached to the body and fins.

Glugea, Henneguya
Sporozoans that form large cysts that look similar to Lymphocystsis and is also incurable.

I've seen those two mainly in gouramis, the bump eventually bursts open and the fish's labyrinth is left vulnerable and unprotected and they suffer. I hope this is not the case with your little guy. It happens rather quickly so if you think he's sick you could try to treat him. Ya think?

Do you think more frequent water changes could help? How about salt?

I think the lump happend over a week or two. But when I first got him, he was mostly white. Then after a while he got more blue on him. Then I thought I noticed a hole in his head before he got the bump, but my hubby didn't think so. Then I noticed that it grew so much. I have had him for about 9 months to a year.

He is not acting any different. Did have to put a dime to a nickle size spotted pleco for a bit. That was for only a week or two. Do you think the pleco brought some disease into the tank that could cause that. There is nothing wrong with the spotted pleco though. He seem very healthy and active. The pleco is in a 10 gal by itself now. We have a clown pleco in there with the spotted and he died. Not sure why but I think he did not have enough to eat, but we did put algea pellets in the bottom for them to eat. Who knows.

Thanks for all the help.

Wow... it kinda looks like a betta I saw at my LFS with Lymphocystsis, but I have no clue to be honest
I guess you could just go with frequent water changes and salt and see what happens...

Well, I went to feed my betta this morning and he has two more white spots on the top of his head. One of the white spots looks like it kinda broke open, but not. There is a litte red spot in the white. Do you think he is going to die?
Thanks for all the help. Will try and get some pics soon so you can take a look.

Your could try maracyn 2 on the fish if it's not a tumour that might heal it, good luck.

It sounds like it might be spreading. It seems the bump will enlarge and become infected until a parasite bursts out. Which gives you a combo of problems both bacterial and parasitic. Methylene blue and Maroxy are heavy anti bacterial meds, maybe you should grab something like that and at least attempt to treat him. If you can get a powder form of meth blue, you can actually dab it directly on his head with a qtip, it might be tricky. Other than that, maybe a small dosage of a copper based med for the parasites, cross your fingers and say a prayer. Don't be surprised if he goes quickly though :( It sounds and looks like it might be in the final stages.

He seems to be doing normal. Acting the same, always hungry! :p

Going to try that and hope it is okay. Going to go to store real quick before they close. Thanks for the help! Here are some updated pics, just took a few minutes ago. Poor thing. I just loved him to death! He sits on my desk at home and he loves to make faces at me. He loves the attention. Going to miss him a lot! Hope he turns around! :) :) ;)

I hope he does too. Ya never know, he really just might. I stick by what I say earlier when I said he looked to be healthy. He really does. The news from this morning of more bumps was alarming though. Crazy how they pop up when you most start worrying about the one big one.
